Modern Slavery Statement

This statement sets out the approach of Blaco Hill Farm Cottages to preventing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and our supply chain.

About us

Blaco Hill Farm Cottages is a family run business offering eleven self catering holiday cottages on a working arable farm near Mattersey, on the Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire border. We employ a small team and work with a limited number of local suppliers and contractors.

Our commitment

We are opposed to modern slavery in all its forms, including forced labour, servitude and human trafficking. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all of our business dealings, and to taking reasonable steps to ensure that modern slavery does not take place in any part of our business or supply chain.

Our annual turnover falls below the threshold at which a statement is required under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We publish this statement voluntarily, because we believe these standards should apply to businesses of every size.

Our people

All of our staff are recruited and employed directly. We check that every member of staff has the right to work in the United Kingdom, is paid at or above the National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage, and receives a written statement of their terms of employment. Working hours and rest breaks comply with the Working Time Regulations 1998.

We do not use recruitment agencies or labour providers to source staff. Should that change, we would carry out appropriate checks before engaging them.

Our supply chain

Our supply chain is small and predominantly local. It consists mainly of cleaning and laundry services, maintenance and building contractors, utilities, and suppliers of furnishings and consumables for the cottages.

We consider the risk of modern slavery within our business to be low, given its size, its location and the direct employment of our staff. We recognise that risk may be higher among suppliers who operate longer or less visible supply chains, and we take this into account when choosing who to work with.

Due diligence

In managing this risk we:

  • favour established local suppliers and contractors with whom we have a direct working relationship
  • expect all suppliers and contractors to comply with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and with all applicable employment law
  • keep our arrangements with suppliers under review, and will not continue to work with any supplier we believe to be involved in modern slavery or human trafficking

Raising a concern

Anyone who has a concern about modern slavery in our business or our supply chain is encouraged to raise it with us in confidence by emailing victoria@blacohillcottages.co.uk. Concerns may also be reported to the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700.
